$1.20 in silver, love from Dotty 07/01/2009

A gorgeous overcast 70 degree detecting day for the start of July. @#$%&!!

I was behind my desk for most of it, with an obligation at 6:00 pm, which means I did not get out detecting until 7:00 pm, way later than I would have liked.

It was worth the wait! A short hour and a half hunt in a park yielded these goodies. Started off with the 1936 dime, followed by the cool HEAVY sterling ID bracelet. "Robert" was probably in big trouble with "Dotty" when he lost it!

Next came the 1918D half, then it was quiet for a while until the 1902 Barber quarter showed up!  I kept thinking I was going to dig a silver Roosevelt dime, and then I got it, 1953D. Kept gridding the area and surprise! 1935 quarter. Kept at it for a while longer, but I had exhausted the hot spot. This was the same area that had given up a walking liberty half a few years ago and I had not been back to it with a Minelab yet. A few pieces of clad, not much, and wheats. I love days like this.

Best Silver Day Ever! 06/15/2009

Big thank you to my friend Steve for inviting me to hunt with him today at this great private park he has permission at.

Arrived at the site in the am and in the first hour I got a 1903-O Barber quarter, not much else for a long while except a buffalo and some wheats. Got a silver Roosie (don't know which) next to a dead plug. Steve got a few silver and wheats as well, but the ground was dry and the heat was oppressive, no digging pennies today if it could be avoided. Took a break and wandered a bit more and Steve decided he'd done all he could do for the day and took off about noontime. I continued to hunt, picked up a few silver dimes 1936 and 1946, one right next to someone else's dead plug again. Someone else had been detecting this site recently and left some messy plugs  - one even had a clad quarter laying right next to it. (Found out later this person was a site poacher and had fibbed to get in, grrr! )

So after another break, it was 2:30 and I had to be on the road by 5:00, so I decided to put the rally cap on. Heat stroke be damned.  I put new batteries in and headed for the hill. I was going to grid hard. Hit two silver Roosies right off the bat, full steam ahead. Silver was flowing now, as was the sweat. I wasn't digging anything clad, passed up at least $10 in quarters and 500 pennies, I'm sure. Felt bad  when I got the half and a silver dime in one hole as I know Steve really wanted a half. Just kept going until 4:45 when I just couldn't do it anymore. I was pushing so hard at the end I was tossing the silver in my pouch to keep going.

Best silver day ever with SIXTEEN silver coins, an incredible silver quarter trifecta - Barber, SLQ and Washington - among FIVE silver quarters for the day (and this the day after I just got THREE silver quarters in one hunt). 1943 half, 1903-O, no date, 1943, 1944, 1954 quarters and dimes 1936, 1942D, 1945, 1946, 1948D, 1952, 1954, 1954D, 1961D, 1964. And an assortment of clad and some wheats. No date on the buffalo nickel and the oldest wheat was 1910.

I wish it had been a more exciting coin, but silver #100 for the year (in 3 months detecting this year) is a 1964 dime.

I also picked up a 1940 quarter #101 and a 1948D dime #102 today.

Best silver year ever thanks to Minelab!

510 wheaties, 11 indian heads.Whew! I'm tired!

Fifty SIlver Coins! 05/05/2009

Went out for a quick hunt at lunch today, dug three targets. A screw cap and two silver dimes, 1934 and 1944.

After the previous day's hunt at the one spot where all I dug were the three silver coins, I'm beginning to think I have the Midas touch, only with silver!

Anyhow, the 1944 dime is silver coin #50 for this year (2 months hunting), which I consider a milestone. My goal last year was 50 and I surpassed that with 52, my 2009 goal is 100.

Tied my best silver day with six in a three hour after-work hunt.  Tried to get seven, but the darkness descended.  The half was a total surprise and the heavy sterling ring was a great bonus.

Gold plated cufflink, silver necklace, lead ball boo-lit thing, three silver dimes, silver quarter and an 1899 indian head penny. A few clad and wheaties too, but no pics of those. Also took a pile of the junk.

Pocket spill of 12 coins... 10 wheaties and two mercury dimes (43 and 45) in the same hole. You can see the marks on the dimes where they were sandwiched in with the wheats. The oldest wheat in the group was 1913, the two newest coins both dated 1945. Also picked up 2 other mercs, 1935 and 1944 and a WWII era Army "U.S." collar pin.

I'm Nick A. and I am a metal detector hobbyist in Central Ohio.  I have been metal detecting for 20 years, and currently use the Minelab E-Trac detector.

I am always happy to find silver coins (made before 1964) for my collection, as these are no longer in common circulation.
